Speciality Ayurvedic Treatment for Sciatica at Sahyadri Ayurveda Hospital
Sciatica or Gridhrasi in Ayurveda is a set of symptoms including pain, tenderness, numbness, low blood flow, decreased muscle nutrition, muscle weakness caused by general compression or irritation of one of five spinal nerve roots of each sciatic nerve.

The common causes of Sciatica or Gridhrasi are Lumbar spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower back), Degenerative disc diseases (breakdown of discs, which act as cushions between the vertebrae),Spondylolisthesis (a condition in which one vertebra slips forward over another one).Muscle Fibrosis and Pregnancy.

Overweight, Lack of regular exercise, wearing high heels, using too soft mattress, bad posture, standing, forward bending, long walking, constant sitting were the aggravating factors in 80% of patients and constipation in 45% patients.

Common symptoms of Sciatica or Gridhrasi include Pain in the buttock or leg that is worse when sitting, Burning or tingling sensation on the the leg, weakness, numbness, or difficulty in moving the leg or foot, constant pain on one side of the buttock, shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up

The SLR (Straight Leg Rising) test is used both for diagnosis as well as for assessing the progress of treatment. Imaging technology will also help to fix the specific diagnosis.

Treatment for Sciatica or Gridhrasi symptoms often differs, depending on underlying causes and pain levels. The treatment available for sciatica in modern medicine is not very satisfactory. Prescribing pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs can provide only symptomatic relief.

Treatment for Sciatica or Gridhrasi in Ayurveda is effective, simple, safe, and economically affordable. Application of medicated oils and medicated fomentation therapies along with different purification therapies like Abyanga, Ela kizhi ,Kati vasti, Matra vasti, Virachena are found to be very effective in the management of Sciatica or Gridhrasi.

Ayurvedic herbs from sahyadri farms, freshly prepared medicines, well qualified and experienced therapists and doctors are contributing to the successful management of Sciatica or Gridhrasi.

Spinal manipulation is an effective treatment for acute Sciatica or Gridhrasi. The Spinal manipulative effects of medicated oils and medicated fomentation therapies have been found generally safe for the treatment of disc-related pain.

Being active is good for everyone, even if you have back pain. Some gentle types of exercises and medicated oil therapies, dietary and life style prescriptions may help you get stronger, which could help you feel better.

Without exercise and medicated oil application, the back muscles and spinal structures become de-conditioned and less able to support the back. The de-conditioning and weakening can lead to back injury and strain, which causes additional pain.

In addition, regular, active and gentle exercise and self application of medicated oils along with gentle self massage help the exchange nutrients and fluids within the discs to keep them healthy and prevent pressure on the sciatic nerve. A combination of Mahanarayana oil and Karpooradi oil is ideal for self massage
